Dear Club Vertical Volleyball Family and Friends:
Welcome to Club Vertical Volleyball (CV) and the 2009-2010 junior boys and girls club season!
It is an honor to serve as your President and to grow the hearts and minds of our participants through this athletic endeavor. The commitment made by each participant in our program is volleyball wrapped in a multitude of threads; it is an experience that will be an athletic, social, cultural, and educational enrichment.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a glimpse of our program with you. My challenge is to describe it in so many words that best illustrates the values, beliefs, goals, and mission of our organization and the people involved.
Our program slogan is, “Defy Gravity. Rise Above.” It implies the possibilities that are born from hopes and dreams. As an organization, we welcome every opportunity to share, grow, and learn with renewed energy and hope. We dare to dream big dreams, knowing that dreams help to accomplish great things. We do not take the opportunity that is before us for granted. That is, to provide quality volleyball service, while representing our region with pride at the national level. We respect our responsibility to our friends and supporters.
Our mission, coupled with the concerted efforts with other junior club volleyball programs in the USA Volleyball® regions of our affiliate junior boys and girls programs is to provide excellent training opportunities for our coaches and staff and the girls and boys of all ages to compete among the best on a local, regional, and national level.
It is our hope, mission, and dream that CV will continue to thrive and endure in the regions our programs are affiliated with as quality service providers for volleyball development and life enhancement.
Our culture is to create a community of timeless values where young men and women hold themselves and each other accountable. We believe that our participants respect true humility and they will fight for our program if we stand for more than just winning. What it really boils down to is how life should be lived and how people should be treated.
Our coaches understand that this experience and their role to help the lives of young people has nothing to do with standing in front of their respective teams with a piece of chalk in their hand. The young men and women who have chosen to be part of the Club Vertical Family know that there is no meaning when it comes to play calling or blocking assignments or the like, unless they know that our coaches genuinely care for their best interests.
As an organization, our board of trustees, system of councils, task committees, coaches, and administrators that comprise our Academy and Junior School—two divisions of Club Vertical Volleyball—understand that we are all an extension of each other. As we have impressed upon all of you at Orientation, we pride ourselves as a highly organized, efficient, and professionally operated program that believes in class, honoring others before us who have paved the way to grow girls volleyball, and the opportunity to serve you. We don’t believe in bad mouthing others. We allow the merit of our work and sacrifices to speak for itself.
Our administration and coaching staff is diverse, featuring both experienced and aspiring young people in the role of leaders and educators, each mindful that there is more to life than volleyball. Often times, this perspective is difficult to impress upon young people. What we aim for is balance, cognizant that concentration, dedication, discipline, and good old fashioned hard work is what closes the gap from where we are to where we want to be.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the young men and women—the student-athletes—that have taken a leap of faith to commit to our program. Some joined our program by default, others because they could not be accommodated at another program, and those who believed in our program from the very beginning. No matter what the reason, most importantly they are here now, and that we will not take a solitary chance on each member while we continue to do our best to provide the best possible experience for each participant. We dedicate our efforts to provide our students with a positive experience, where new friendships are made and old friendships are renewed, which will last a lifetime.
This endeavor is more than a job for our administrators and coaches: it is a life mission. We believe this is why we are here for you. For many, they don’t understand what this means. But for us, we believe that is what we are called: live a life of service to others; this is our calling.
